I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

Gold is worked with as a metal of quiet sovereignty, kept close during rites of self-worth, leadership and long marriages. Practitioners hold it as a reminder that a metal which does not tarnish still needs to be earned.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Native gold is one of the few metals that occurs in nature in elemental form because of its chemical nobility — it resists oxidation and dissolves only in aggressive reagents such as aqua regia and cyanide solutions. It crystallises in the cubic system as rare octahedra, dodecahedra and wire aggregates, but is more commonly found as nuggets and disseminated grains in quartz veins and placer deposits.
