I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

A quiet, uncommon stone of steadfast affection. Traditional use frames alurgite as a companion for slow emotional labour - the reconciliations that take seasons rather than moments. Its layered cleavage is read as a metaphor for accumulated care.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Alurgite is the manganoan variety of muscovite, coloured by Mn³⁺ in the octahedral site. It forms in metamorphosed manganese-bearing sediments and is closely associated with braunite and piemontite in the schists of the Western Alps, where it was first described in the 19th century. Perfect basal cleavage yields the classic mica-book form.
