I. The Metaphysical Reading
How the stone has been held.
Blue dolomite is worked with by practitioners in caretaking work, teaching, nursing, hospice, who need to recover their own voice after long days of listening. It is spoken of as a stone that returns speech to its owner.

II. The Scientific Reading
What the lattice actually does.
Blue dolomite is a variety of the double carbonate of calcium and magnesium coloured pale blue by trace copper and iron in the lattice. It forms in sedimentary settings by the replacement of limestone through magnesium-rich groundwater, a process called dolomitisation. The Congolese and Moroccan deposits both come from Mesozoic carbonate platforms altered by later hydrothermal fluids.
