I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

Allophane is spoken of as a gentle stone of emotional recovery - carried by those in the tender period after grief. Its soft blues are read as the presence of a quiet, watchful attention, and it is often paired with harder heart stones as a calming counterweight.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Allophane is a nanoscale clay mineral formed by the weathering of volcanic ash. It is not truly crystalline: its structure consists of hollow nanospheres about 3.5–5 nm in diameter, with short-range order but no long-range lattice. This gives it an extraordinarily high specific surface area and makes it a major carbon-storage phase in andic volcanic soils.
