Chevron Amethyst has the chemical formula SiO₂ (with Fe and structural OH), crystallises in the trigonal system and measures 7 (Mohs) on the Mohs scale. Chevron Amethyst is a naturally banded quartz in which layers of purple amethyst alternate with milky white quartz in sharp V-shaped chevrons, produced when the growth environment cycled between iron-rich (amethyst) and iron-poor (milky) fluids as the crystal grew. It is a single continuous quartz crystal, not a mechanical mixture, and takes a fine polish for beads and cabochons.
