Bladed Calcite

I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

Bladed calcite is worked with as a stone of release for practitioners carrying old identities that no longer fit. Its blades are read as leaves shed in an orderly way, an invitation to let a season end without dramatising the ending.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Bladed calcite is a habit rather than a species: calcium carbonate crystallised in thin flattened blades that overlap in radiating stacks. This growth pattern typically records rapid precipitation from a saturated hydrothermal fluid within an open cavity. The best-known specimens come from the Charcas district of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, where the blades are often coated by later chalcopyrite or pyrite.
