I. The Metaphysical Reading
How the stone has been held.
Cobra jasper is worked with as a stone of alert stillness, kept nearby during boundary work, shadow practice and any ritual that asks a person to sit calmly with what has been coiled up inside them. Practitioners hold it as a reminder that patience is not passivity.

II. The Scientific Reading
What the lattice actually does.
Cobra jasper is a trade name for a reticulated chalcedony jasper from India in which fine networks of iron- and manganese-oxide veinlets have precipitated through a cream to tan silica groundmass, producing a snakeskin-like pattern. Like other jaspers it is a microcrystalline variety of quartz whose colour and figure come entirely from included metal oxides rather than the silica itself.
