Magma chalcedony is a trade name for red-orange banded chalcedony — a cryptocrystalline variety of quartz — often occurring in a black basaltic or ironstone host from volcanic terrains. The vivid color derives from finely dispersed iron oxides infilling silica-rich veins in the parent lava.
