What the lattice actually does.
Dragon stone is a trade name for a metamorphic rock in which deep green epidote — Ca₂(Al,Fe)₃(SiO₄)₃(OH) — is intergrown with the manganese-rich epidote-group mineral piemontite, whose Mn³⁺ content produces the striking blood-red domains. Both minerals crystallised together during regional metamorphism of manganese- and iron-bearing sediments.
