What the lattice actually does.
Eudialyte is a rare and structurally complex sodium calcium zirconium silicate that forms in alkaline igneous rocks such as nepheline syenite. Its name is from Greek meaning 'well decomposable', referring to its ready solubility in acids. The finest specimens come from the Khibiny and Lovozero massifs of Russia's Kola Peninsula, where it is mined as a minor ore of zirconium.
