Q: What is Green Dolomite made of?

Green Dolomite has the chemical formula CaMg(CO₃)₂, crystallises in the trigonal system and measures 3.5 – 4 (Mohs) on the Mohs scale. Dolomite is a calcium-magnesium carbonate that forms extensive sedimentary rock units — often through the dolomitisation of pre-existing limestone by magnesium-rich seawater or brines. Its rhombohedral crystals are common in Alpine cavities, Mississippi-Valley-type ore deposits and evaporitic sequences. The green tint of some specimens is attributed to trace nickel or iron substitution.
