Garden Quartz has the chemical formula SiO₂ with chlorite, feldspar, hematite, iron oxide inclusions, crystallises in the trigonal (host quartz) system and measures 7 (Mohs) on the Mohs scale. Garden quartz — also called lodolite or scenic quartz — is transparent quartz that trapped other minerals during growth. As the crystal grew slowly in a hydrothermal cavity, chlorite, feldspar, hematite and clay drifted through the fluid and were engulfed by successive quartz layers, freezing a snapshot of the growth environment. The inclusions do not alter the host lattice; they are simply frozen scenery inside an otherwise ordinary α-quartz crystal.

Garden quartz — also called lodolite or scenic quartz — is transparent quartz that trapped other minerals during growth.
