I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

Green onyx is worked with as a stone of composed feeling, held when someone needs to keep their heart present but their expression measured. Practitioners hold that it steadies affection during formal or professional settings.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Onyx is a banded chalcedony traditionally black-and-white; 'green onyx' on the market is either the same banded material dyed green with metallic-salt solutions or, less commonly, naturally green chrome-bearing chalcedony (chrome chalcedony / mtorolite). Both are cryptocrystalline silica — myriad microscopic quartz crystals fused into a dense, opaque mass that takes a mirror polish.
