I. The Metaphysical Reading
How the stone has been held.
Optical calcite is worked with as a stone of clarity, insight and doubled perspective. Its famous double refraction is read as a reminder that a single situation can hold two truths at once, and it is used to encourage flexible seeing.

II. The Scientific Reading
What the lattice actually does.
Optical calcite, historically known as Iceland spar, is exceptionally transparent, well-formed rhombohedral calcite. Its very strong double refraction — splitting a beam of light into two distinctly polarised rays — made it foundational to the study of polarisation and to early optical instruments.
