Pink zebra jasper is a banded chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) in which rhythmic layers of iron oxide and clay pigment the silica pink, salmon and cream. The banding records repeated pulses of silica-rich fluid through fractured sediment, each pulse carrying a slightly different iron content and oxidation state.
