Flower Jasper has the chemical formula SiO₂ groundmass with feldspar / calcite rosettes, crystallises in the aggregate system and measures 6 – 7 (Mohs) on the Mohs scale. Flower jasper is a trade name for jaspers and silicified sediments in which radial rosettes of feldspar, celestine or calcite have crystallised as spherulites within a fine-grained silica or clay-rich groundmass. When the rosettes are of calcite in a black shale ground the material is separately marketed as chrysanthemum stone; flower jasper covers the paler, more silica-rich variants.
