Plumbogummite has the chemical formula PbAl₃(PO₄)₂(OH)₅·H₂O, crystallises in the trigonal system and measures 4 – 5 (Mohs) on the Mohs scale. Plumbogummite is a hydrated lead aluminium phosphate of the alunite supergroup, forming in the oxidised zones of lead deposits where descending phosphate-bearing waters attack primary galena and pyromorphite. It commonly appears as botryoidal crusts and as epimorphs replacing pyromorphite crystals, notably at Yangshuo, Guangxi, China. As a lead mineral it should be handled dry and hands washed after use.
