I. The Metaphysical Reading
How the stone has been held.
Flower obsidian is worked with as a stone of soft-edged shadow work, kept nearby during journalling, dream tending and any practice that asks a person to look at what has been hidden without becoming harsh with themselves. Practitioners hold it as a reminder that even the dark can put out blossoms.

II. The Scientific Reading
What the lattice actually does.
Flower obsidian — sold overlappingly with snowflake obsidian — is a rhyolitic volcanic glass in which slow devitrification during cooling nucleated radial sprays of cristobalite (a high-temperature SiO₂ polymorph) within the glass, producing the pale bloom-like spherulites against a black glass ground.
