I. The Metaphysical Reading
How the stone has been held.
Barite is worked with as a stone of quiet dreamwork and the release of pressure held below awareness. Practitioners keep it near the head of the bed for recall practice and speak of its unusual weight as a reminder that inner work has real mass, even when nothing outward has yet moved.

II. The Scientific Reading
What the lattice actually does.
Barite is barium sulphate, notable for its unusually high specific gravity of about 4.5, which sets it apart from most pale minerals of similar appearance. It crystallises in tabular orthorhombic blades and radiating rosette forms, and is the principal ore of barium. Because of its density it is the standard weighting agent in oilfield drilling fluids, and it fluoresces cream to pale blue under short-wave ultraviolet light.
