Blue Aventurine

I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

Blue aventurine is carried by practitioners committing to slow, unglamorous discipline: learning a language, quitting a substance, holding a boundary in a family. It is spoken of as the plain sister of the greener stone, less sparkle and more staying power.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Blue aventurine is a variety of quartzite in which fibrous dumortierite has grown within the interlocking quartz grains, producing both the blue colour and a soft aventurescence when the crystal faces catch the light. It forms in high-temperature aluminous metamorphic rocks. The main commercial material comes from the deposits of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in southern India.
