What the lattice actually does.
Hyacinth jasper is a trade name for warm-orange to reddish-brown jasper — an opaque microcrystalline quartz coloured by finely dispersed hematite and goethite. Like all jaspers it forms as silica-rich fluids replace and cement earlier sediments or volcanic ash, sealing iron oxide pigments into a dense, tough matrix that takes an excellent polish. Colour varies with the ratio of hematite (red) to goethite (yellow) in the pigment.
