I. The Metaphysical Reading
How the stone has been held.
Fruit jasper is worked with as a stone of appetite and permission, kept in the kitchen, at family tables and around practices that welcome sensory pleasure. Practitioners hold it as a reminder that a body that enjoys itself is not a body out of control.

II. The Scientific Reading
What the lattice actually does.
Fruit jasper is a modern trade name — most often applied to brightly-coloured Indian and Indonesian jaspers — for microcrystalline quartz whose banded reds, oranges, yellows and greens come from iron and manganese oxides precipitated in successive silica layers. Some material sold under this name is dyed to enhance the colour saturation; natural pieces show more muted, earthier tones.
