Lizardite is a magnesium-rich serpentine mineral, one of the three main polymorphs of serpentine along with antigorite and chrysotile. It forms by hydration of ultramafic rocks such as peridotite and is named for the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, England, where it was first described.
