Ocean jasper is a rare orbicular chalcedony from a single small coastal deposit on the north-west shore of Madagascar. Its distinctive orbs formed as silica-rich fluids nucleated around impurity grains in cavities of an ancient rhyolite, growing outward in concentric rings.
