Pistachio Calcite has the chemical formula CaCO₃ with chlorite/serpentine inclusions, crystallises in the trigonal system and measures 3 (Mohs) on the Mohs scale. Pistachio calcite is ordinary calcite whose green tint comes from finely dispersed chlorite, serpentine or other magnesium silicate inclusions rather than from the carbonate itself. Like all calcite it is strongly birefringent, shows perfect rhombohedral cleavage in three directions, and effervesces in dilute hydrochloric acid.
