I. The Metaphysical Reading
How the stone has been held.
Emerald calcite is worked with as a stone of soft-hearted repair, kept nearby during grief tending, forgiveness practice and any work that asks the chest to unclench a little. Practitioners hold it as a reminder that a gentler colour can do the same work as a bolder one.

II. The Scientific Reading
What the lattice actually does.
Emerald calcite is a marketing name for a pale green variety of calcite (CaCO₃) whose colour comes from trace copper, nickel and iron incorporated into the calcite lattice, rather than from any relationship to beryl. Like all calcite it shows strong birefringence (~0.17), soft Mohs 3 hardness and vigorous effervescence in dilute acid.
