What the lattice actually does.
Anorthosite is an intrusive igneous rock composed almost entirely of plagioclase feldspar. It forms in two very different settings: massif-type bodies emplaced deep in continental crust between roughly 1 and 1.8 billion years ago, and the lunar highlands, where anorthosite makes up the bright regions of the Moon's crust. The rock's optical behaviour ranges from dull to strongly schillerescent depending on the plagioclase composition.
