Brown Dravite Tourmaline

I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

Brown dravite is worked with as a stone of practical service and unglamorous care. Practitioners carry it during volunteer work, elder care and any long project where the reward is quiet and the work is repetitive.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Dravite is the magnesium end-member of the tourmaline group, first described from the Drave River valley of Carinthia in 1883. Its brown colour comes from a combination of iron and titanium substituting for magnesium in the octahedral sites of the trigonal borosilicate structure. Major sources include the Yinnietharra field in Western Australia and the Merelani Hills of Tanzania.
