Q: What is Caribbean Calcite made of?

Caribbean Calcite has the chemical formula CaCO₃ (two polymorphs), crystallises in the trigonal (calcite) with orthorhombic (aragonite) system and measures 3 – 4 (Mohs) on the Mohs scale. Despite its name, Caribbean calcite is not from the Caribbean: the material was first commercially quarried around 2019 from a single deposit in the Baluchistan province of Pakistan. It is a natural intergrowth of soft blue calcite with white botryoidal aragonite, both calcium carbonate polymorphs, formed together in cavities of a shallow marine limestone.
