What the lattice actually does.
Enstatite is the magnesium end-member of the orthopyroxene series and one of the most abundant minerals in the Earth's upper mantle. It is common in ultramafic rocks, meteorites and lunar samples; the iron-rich variety is called ferrosilite and the intermediate compositions bronzite and hypersthene. Gem-quality transparent crystals are rare and come chiefly from Tanzania and Myanmar.
