Prophecy Stone

I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

Prophecy stone is used, as its trade name suggests, in divinatory and visionary practice — held during meditation to steady attention on what is coming rather than what is feared. Its unusual weight is treated as a reminder to keep insight tethered to the body.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Prophecy stone is a limonite or goethite pseudomorph after marcasite from Cretaceous chalk of Egypt's White Desert. Original marcasite nodules oxidised in place, so the angular blocky external form of the sulphide is preserved while the interior converted to iron oxides and hydroxides. The high density relative to its size reflects that iron-rich composition.
