I. The Metaphysical Reading

How the stone has been held.

Named for its star-like radiating habit. Astrophyllite is spoken of as a stone of self-knowledge, one that helps a practitioner name the pattern of their own life from a slight remove. It is often carried during periods of biographical reflection and honest reappraisal.

II. The Scientific Reading

What the lattice actually does.

Astrophyllite is a rare titanosilicate that crystallises in flat radiating sprays of golden bladed crystals, a habit unusual enough to have named the species. It forms in alkaline igneous rocks, most famously the agpaitic nepheline syenites of the Khibiny and Lovozero massifs on the Kola Peninsula. Its brassy sheen comes from ferrous iron and its blades cleave in a single perfect direction, splitting into flexible mica-like sheets.
